I challenged myself to leave the bars in the fridge overnight, untouched, before slicing. That was a difficult task but kept them solid enough not to melt while slicing. The next day, I ran hot water over a knife for a few minutes, dried off the knife, and began slicing. I had to repeat this process over and over while cutting out the maple leaf. I created a maple leaf template out of poster board and rested it over the bars while I was cutting.

I’ve never had a Nanaimo bar, but I’ve been to Nanaimo and it is a gorgeous town. Your bars look so cute with the maple candy!

I love how you did a different shape for the bars. The maple leaf is perfect! How did you get it to cut so smooth? i kept trying to cut hearts out, but it was too hard to cut through.
